WaveFront TechnologyWavefront technology was originally developed to measure distortions that occur to light when it travels through our atmosphere and enters an optical telescope (ex. light from a star). This technology has been adapted for laser vision correction. The WavePrint System by VISX® uses Hartmann-Shack Wavefront sensing technology. This is a computer-based system that measures the subtle variability of how light is focused (distorted) in different areas of your eye. These subtle variations are known as high order distortions (ex. spherical aberrations, coma). They account for up to 10% of all optical distortions, even in normal eyes. The WavePrint System
creates a special map detailing this variability, for your doctor to review.
From this map, a detailed treatment plan can be created, taking into account
your unique optical distortions, glasses prescription, pupil size, and
visual needs. The final result is a treatment as unique as your DNA or
a fingerprint. |
